Unleashing Indonesia’s Potential: The Importance of Character and Obedience
Yes, we can. Ahok has opened our eyes to do the impossible. Indonesian Christians can be nation builders. We can be clean and Christian politicians, government officials, and business owners. We can be lawful tax payers, good environment stewards, and profitable business owners. Yet, we realize the unnerving storms surrounding Ahok. Without strong foundation in God and His Word, none can withstand these constant attacks from the principalities of this world.
God has taught us the template and the pitfall of nation builders. The best example can be learnt from the life of King Solomon. Solomon is well known to be the builder of God’s temple. However, not many people realize that he also built infrastructures, cities, industries, armies, and trade zones. Queen Sheba testified that Israel was more grandeur than anything she had ever seen. Because of God’s wisdom, King Solomon stood up as giant when compare to other kings in his era.
In 1 Kings 9, we learn that the first building block of a great nation builder is the worship of the one true God our Lord Jesus Christ. The second building block is obedience toward God’s decree and command. The third building block is fellowship. Unlike his father David, Solomon did not surround himself with godly people. People were not only inspiring but also critical when we walk away from the Lord.
