1985
Indonesian Christian Conference (ICC), first held in 1985, was aimed to spread the Gospel, equip and support one another, and share information and visions among Indonesian Christians in the United States. The vision was to nurture Indonesian Christians who are spiritually strong, have a close relationship with God, and can be the salt and light for Christ in every aspect of their lives.
1989
FICA was born from the Indonesian Christian Conference (ICC) during the 5th ICC. The idea came when Mr. David Bok challenged Indonesian students attending the Navigators International Student Conference (ISC) to be the Nehemiah to our own nation, Indonesia. Through prayers and many discussions, the name FICA was chosen, which stands for Fellowship of Indonesian Christians in America.
1990
In 1990, FICA was officially registered as a non-profit organization, furthering its mission to support Indonesian Christians in America and Indonesia.
1993
The last (9th) ICC was held in 1993 in Colorado. Despite successes in spreading the Gospel and building unity among Indonesian Christian Fellowships (ICFs), challenges such as follow-up issues, financial problems, and lack of continuity led to its conclusion. This led to discussions among FICA leaders, about the need for focused events addressing specific needs: evangelization, leadership development, and Christian worldview development.
1994
By early 1994, during a meeting in Madison, FICA conceptualized TPM (Temu Pelayanan Mancanegara), to focus on developing a Christian worldview through interactive forums that maintained evangelical principles. Despite initial doubts, the idea gained unanimous support. TPM aims to develop a Christian worldview and foster network building, particularly concerning Indonesia. The goal is for participants to apply their learnings and continue their involvement in subsequent TPMs. The conference serves to bring Indonesian context and reality to the US, aligning with FICA’s vision of “pembukaan wawasan” or Christian worldview development.
2023
As OMC celebrates its 30th anniversary, it stands as a testament to enduring evangelical principles and the power of collective faith and leadership. This year’s theme marks a shift from addressing basic needs to exploring deeper issues of dignity and significance. Historically, poverty alleviation and economic development were central due to widespread poverty in Indonesia. However, recent progress has met many basic needs, prompting a focus on personal and societal significance.
2024-Ongoing
FICA aims to motivate Indonesian Christians in America to be actively involved in Christian ministries, mobilize them to serve the Church of Jesus Christ, revive them to live a genuine Christian lifestyle, and reach Indonesians in America with the Gospel. FICA partners with ICFs, other churches, para-churches, and Christian organizations to achieve its goals and continues to evolve to meet the needs of Indonesia and Indonesians.
