They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Serving in FICA to follow God’s calling as Christian Indonesian Intellectuals
Serving in FICA is beneficial for Indonesian students and alumni in the US. This is because, the world is changing faster and faster every time. Universities only equip us for the challenge we face few years after graduation. Universities can only fill us with so much knowledge in 4 years. Our God is the only one we can stand during this time.
The Bible says that only God has the control of our future, and the future is bright for all who walks with Him. Psalm 84:11 says, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory, no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”
Ultimately, these students need to learn to walk by faith and not by sight during the 4 years they study in college. Walking by faith and not by sight requires us to be courageous, a lifelong learner, and a movement builder.
Serving in an organization like FICA, forces us to serve courageously like Daniel, Esther, and Nehemiah. We sacrifice a lot of time, energy, and resources in FICA.
Serving in FICA makes us lifelong learners, because of our constituent, wide demographic. For example, we serve alumni in their 60s to freshmen in their teens. We serve Indonesians from many different cultural backgrounds.
Learning from Nehemiah, lasting movement start with clear a just purpose, clear goals, and solid organization. Nehemiah has a very compelling and just purpose. Israel was in trouble because the walls lie in ruins. He has a clear goal that is to build the wall back. He built solid organization by assigning people according to their gifts, traits, and preconditions.
FICA needs to build a movement by learning from Nehemiah. We need to define our purpose and goal clearly. We saw a lot of US alumni that are not pursuing their calling. We want to see them turn 180 degrees and fulfill God’s calling as Christian Indonesian intellectuals. FICA has been blessed with very talented staff. FICA also needs to focus on activities that we can be excellent at. We need to build this movement based on our staff’s gifts, skills, and conditions. We welcome anyone willing to serve God and Indonesia in FICA.
